What is Custom?……. And why should I consider having a custom piece designed and built versus just purchasing a manufactured piece from a retail store. That’s a great question and one you should answer before you proceed.
If what you have in mind for a particular project is available in a retail store and it meets all your requirements as far as Style, Function, Size, Price and most importantly, Quality, then purchasing it from a Retail Store is probably the best way to go……But, if a manufactured piece is lacking in one or more of the requirements, you have to consider if you are willing to compromise or settle for something less then your expectations or if price alone is a strong motivation, then custom is not the best solution.
Designing a Project: There are several ways that we can get started on designing a special project for you.
1. If you already have a design in mind, but looking for someone to build from your design, I will be glad to give a free price quote on your project. You can start by simply e-mailing me some information as to what you have in mind, along with a rough drawing or picture. The more information you can include will help me give an accurate quote. Include such things as the type wood you prefer, finishes (whether you’re looking for a special type of finish, or stain or just finishing natural.). Any special features you would like built in, the type hardware you would like, etc. We can correspond back and forth until we work out all the details.
2. If you have an idea for a project, but have no design ideas in mind, then we can start from scratch. Usually I prefer coming to your home so we can sit down and look at the area where your project is going. We can also discuss whether we are designing for your project to match or blend with existing Décor or if you’re making a new start with decorating for this area. This gives us a much better feel for designing a piece that will fit perfectly in your home and your life style. This works best within a 200mile radius, but don’t be discouraged if you live farther away. I have designed and built furniture for my clientele all over the country. Today’s technology allows us to design and communicate all over the nation and we will deliver anywhere in the US. How does this work? We start with the basics. What do you have in mind for a project? A Home Entertainment Center? Possibly a Home Office or Library? Or a particular piece of furniture? From there, we work on the style of furniture you’re looking for, such a Traditional, Transitional or something more Contemporary. Designing the perfect blend of style and function is a critical step in the designing process. Example: If we are helping you design a home office in a bonus room or spare bedroom, I spend a lot of time with you working out the details of not only the style of the piece, but also the function of your office that works best for you. We need to take into consideration, the size restrictions we may have working in a particular space, yet including the functional aspects that are important to the way you want your office to work for you. What would you want to incorporate in your work space? Such as a computer (laptop or desktop), printer, scanner, fax machine, copier, or phones. What kind of storage will be needed for files, supplies, etc.? Incorporating all these elements, keeping in mind how “you” like to work in your space is all part of the designing process.

Do we charge for designing? There is no charge for the designing process if we are designing a piece we are building for you. This is all included in the price of the project. We work through the design with you and will give a price quote free. The designs and drawing are not included in a price quote, but are included once we finalize the design and sign a proposal.
Once we create the basic design, then I can work a price quote for your project to see if it works in your budget and we can adjust from there. We can always change size, style and features to adjust pricing, but we never compromise our Quality or Craftsmanship for a Price.
The Hufford Furniture Group offers a design service for anyone that would like John to help them with a design they would like to build themselves or design for someone else to build. The charge is $50.00/Hr. which will include a complete set of drawing to build from with all dimensions. John will be glad to send a sample drawing for anyone that may be interested.
